Philippine 3-in-1 Instant Coffee Price Trends
Methodology
To monitor the real-time retail prices of 3-in-1 instant coffee in the Philippines, a data pipeline was implemented to extract daily price information from major online grocery retailers such as SM Supermarket and Waltermart. The monitoring focuses on popular 3-in-1 instant coffee mixes frequently purchased by Filipino households, including brands such as Nescafé, San Mig Coffee, Great Taste, and Kopiko.
Because stock-keeping units (SKUs) vary in both sachet weight and pack quantity—ranging from 7 g × 10 sachets to 125 g × 30 sachets. All prices are standardized to a 400-gram basis, which represents the mode total weight across all surveyed SKUs.
This 400-gram benchmark was determined by analyzing the distribution of total pack weights (weight × quantity) across all products, where totals such as 140 g (7 g × 20 s), 200 g (20 g × 10 s), 300 g (30 g × 10 s), and 400 g (20 g × 20 s) were observed.
Among these, 400 g occurred most frequently on a SKU basis and that is also offered by multiple brands, making it a statistically representative and practical reference point for standardization. An example of this standard format—Nescafé Coffee 3-in-1 Original | 20 g × 20 s—is shown in the image below, illustrating the common 400-gram multipack used as the benchmark for normalization.

By converting all prices to this 400-gram equivalent, the dataset enables consistent price comparisons across brands, packaging formats, and retailers. The following table illustrates how the normalized data appears as of October 23, 2025:
| SKU | avg_price (₱) | avg_standard_price (₱) |
|---|---|---|
| Nescafé Coffee 3-in-1 Original | 20g × 20s | 164.00 | 164.00 |
| San Mig Coffee 3-in-1 Sugar Free Original | 7g × 20s | 128.72 | 367.77 |
| Great Taste White 3-in-1 Coffee Mix Twin Pack | 30g × 10s | 85.70 | 114.27 |
Only SKUs explicitly labeled with the term “3-in-1” and categorized under Instant Coffee are included to ensure data relevance and consistency.
Prices are captured and stored daily, enabling time-series analysis and visualization of short-term retail price movements in the Philippine market. Minor daily variations may occur due to SKU availability and would reflect real retail conditions.
